My wife started her veterinary education on the island of St. Kitts in the Caribbean. We lived on the island for 16 months, and we had quite an adventure. On the island, we rented a room from a wonderful family who lived on the hills overlooking the cane fields. Sugar cane used to be one of their primary exports, but global competition has forced them to focus on other means of revenue in the country. Nevertheless, the cane fields cover much of the island, and there are roads carved through them.
